Designed the flow enabling app developers to instantly provision a free premium test site with a connected domain, replacing a manual coupon process that previously required contacting the Wix Developer Relations team (220+ requests/year). The core design challenge was context-sensitivity: surfacing the right flow and entry points based on whether a developer already had dev sites and how many apps they'd created. I also delivered internal tooling supporting the behind-the-scenes site cloning infrastructure.
What I Did
- Replaced a manual coupon-based process (220+ requests/year to DevRel) with a scalable self-serve experience
- Defined contextual entry points based on developer state (has dev sites, app count) to surface the right flow at the right time
- Delivered internal tooling supporting the behind-the-scenes site cloning mechanism for each Development Site request
Impact
- Eliminated over 200 manual DevRel requests per year. Developers could provision a test site instantly from within the dashboard, without contacting support or waiting for a coupon code.
Entry point scenario 1 - developer has Wix sites but no dev sites, prompted to create a test site first
Bottom line
The interesting design work here was not the provisioning flow itself but the context-sensitivity around it: surfacing the right entry point based on whether a developer already had dev sites, how many apps they had created, and what stage of the workflow they were in. Getting those branching conditions right was what made the experience feel appropriate rather than generic.
